At Majestic Tree Care, we use “rope and saddle” technique exclusively for pruning shade trees. We get inside the tree, get right on top of the branch, and we do a great deal of our pruning with handsaws versus chainsaws. WHAT TO DO AFTER A STORM: HISTORIC/MATURE TREE PRESERVATION

If a mature tree is damaged in a storm call Majestic to selectively remove damaged branches. Preserve the remaining canopy by hiring professionals that know how to safely access damaged branches without harming healthy limbs.

At Majestic Tree Care, our climbers use low impact rope and safety harness techniques (never spikes!) to get out to the tips when necessary.

Our crews are trained to rope off damaged branches so they can be raised or lowered safely to the ground using rope and pulley techniques or, when necessary, a crane.

UPDATE ON DISEASES AFFECTING URBAN TREES IN THE TWIN CITIES

EMERALD ASH BORER

Unfortunately emerald ash borer was found in St. Paul on May 14, 2009. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture immediately took steps to quarantine Hennepin and Ramsey counties in an effort to contain the spread of the insect infestation. Any infested trees that are removed from a property within these areas must be chipped and stored within these areas. If you have an ingested ash, Majestic Tree Care can remove it in accordance with quarantine guidelines. Specimen ash trees, those that have years of growth and provide value to your property, should be preventively treated as soon as possible to prevent infestation in the future. Majestic Tree Care cerfified arborists can evaluate your ash to see if it is a candidate for treatment.

DUTCH ELM DISEASE

Last season we continued to see losses of the beloved American elm. Preventive fungicide injection treatment followed by vigilant homeowner inspections are the only way to protect your elms from succumbing to these fungal diseases. Once a tree is infected in the main trunk, there is no hope for its survival. OAK WILT

Oak wilt continues to affect the Twin Cities area. Oak stands in the Anoka county region have been the most heavily hit. Homeowners in this area are now alert for the discolored foliage that is characteristic of oak wilt. Trenching between infected trees and disease free trees has slowed the spread in many areas. Subsequent preventive treatment of red oaks and therapeutic treatment of white oaks is warranted in key/visible areas of the landscape. PINE SAWFLY

They're here! The masses of worm-like critters on your Mugo pine are actually insect larvae. They're feasting on your plant and must be stopped before they do serious damage. Call today for control options.

APPLE SCAB

If you've got a crabapple tree and every year after the tree leafs out the leaves start falling off, chances are the leaves are infected with apple scab. Since crabapples are a manageable size, they can be sprayed to control the fungus. We've already sprayed the first round and will follow up in the coming weeks to minimize leaf loss. Leaves that do fall to the gound should be raked up and disposed to help break the disease cycle. Like anthracnose (see below), the fungal spores overwinter on infected leaves and then spread to the new leaves in the spring.

ASH ANTHRACNOSE

If you've got an ash tree and every year after the tree leafs out the leaves start falling off, chances are you've got an anthracnose infection. Don't worry – it's a topical leaf fungus and it's not lethal. There are several treatment options, but in all cases be sure to rake up the infected leaves to stop the disease cycle. Dispose of them as the fungal spores overwinter on infected leaves and then spread to the new leaves in the spring.
