EAB DETECTED IN MINNESOTA
Foresters
in Minnesota are bracing for what could be one of the most
devastating threats to trees in decades. The emerald
ash borer (EAB), which origianted in Asia, was detected in St. Paul, MN on May 14, 2009. It was first dectected in North
America in July 2002, killing ash trees in Michigan, Ohio and
Ontario. The detection of EAB in St. Paul sets the stage for devastation of the millions
of ash trees in Minnesota. Property owners can preventively treat their specimen ash trees, but treatment will be needed annually. As a result only trees that provide significant value to the property are candidates for treatment. If an EAB infested tree is found on a homeowners property it must be removed in accordance with Minnesota Department of Agriculture quarantine guidelines.

The Emerald
Ash Borer Pest Alert, an exotic species alert put out
by the MN Department of Agriculture, the MN Department of
Natural Resources, and the US Forest Service State & Private
Forestry asks that arborists inspect any declining ash tree
for signs of the emerald ash borer. If you have an ash
tree showing signs of decline and need an evaluation consultation,
please call Majestic for an evaluation of your tree.
PREVENT SPREAD of EAB
It was our sincere hope that the
emerald ash borer would never make its way to Minnesota.
Now that it's here, you can help support efforts to prevent by monitoring your
ash trees, heeding alerts that restrict ash nursery stock
transport out of infected areas and by ensuring the firewood
you buy has not originated from these areas. Click here to see US EAB detection locations.
EAB PREVENTIVE TREATMENT OPTIONS
Unlike other borers, the emerald ash borer infects both healthy and stressed ash trees, which means any established ash on your property is a candidate for preventive treatment. Whichever trees you choose to treat will be tracked in our database with optimal timing and dose information recorded and monitored according to the latest treatment recommendations. A systemic insecticide is applied every 12-24 months to combat the annual larva- pupa-adult borer life cycle. Majestic Tree Care employes certified pesticide applicators that can safely apply EAB treatment to your ash trees. Our certified arborists will schedule treatments and communicate with city foresters, as needed, to ensure your established ash is protected.
Basal Soil Injection/Drench with Imidicloprid (<10" in diameter ash):
This
emerald ash borer treatment is the same treatment Majestic
Tree Care has used to treat other borers that compromise birch
and oak tree health. A systemic insecticide is applied every 12-18 months to the soil surrounding the base of the tree and taken up by the fine root system present. Direct injection of insecticide is avoided for small diameter trees to prevent build up of wounding in the tissues that could compromise the tree over time.
Micro-Injection with Emamectin Benzoate Tree-äge™ (>10" in diameter ash):
"In several intensive studies conducted by Michigan State University and Ohio State University researchers, a single injection of emamectin benzoate in mid-May or early June provided excellent control of EAB for at least two years, even under high pest pressure (Insecticide Option sfor Protecting Ash Trees from Emerald Ash Borer, Herms et al, 2009)." This emerald ash borer treatment achieved reduction of > 99% of EAB larvae per unit area of bark. Majestic Tree Care certified pesticide applicators are trained to use the micro-injection Arborjet™ system to treat your ash trees in accordance with the latest dosing recommendations from on-going EAB studies.
